Acer “beTouch” line and “neoTouch” touch phone
October 25, 2009
![]() |
Alright, so somehow this slipped under our radar for a few days, but no matter…here it is. Acer has announced a new touch screen-based phone lineup and device: beTouch and neoTouch.
It seems like Acer just can’t get enough touch these days, what with its recently announced Liquid smartie…and now this new line and phone. Both the beTouch line and the neoTouch phone have been “designed to cater for diversified targets and types of use,” and all include touch screens (ranging from 3.0″ to 3.8″).
Acer, like another handset manufacturer, has come to the realization that not all cell phone users are created equal. Some want expensive, more complex devices while others yearn for a simpler, less cluttered touch experience.
For the latter group, Acer is offering three new devices under the ‘beTouch’ name: E100, E101, and E200. All three phones are intended to bring “colour and warmth to the smartphone world” and are therefore “represented by the colour orange, chosen as it is as vibrant and joyous.” What? Anyways, all three phones run WinMo 6.5 and include a touch screen. The E200, i.e. the “fanciest” of the beTouch crew, also includes a slide-down alphanumeric keypad.
As for the new neoTouch, the phone also uses WinMo 6.5 and was designed for maximum “processing power, graphic capabilities and comprehensive connectivity.” Oh, and the neoTouch will apparently come in brown because Acer believes that “brown is a colour that evokes sophistication, taste, decisiveness and solidity.” Again, what? Apparently Acer never caught wind of all the brown Zune hate jokes.

BlackBerry News: BlackBerry Bold 9700 launching on domestic and European GSM carriers in November
October 25, 2009
![]() |
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has finally been announced. Details have been leaking in about the “Onyx” for months and most of the seem to be true in hindsight. The BlackBerry Bold 9000 successor rocks a Tour-like keyboard but ditches the trackball in favor of a little trackpad like in the Curve 8520. The camera has been upped to 3.2MP and the screen is now a 480 x 320 display. Just like the Storm 2, the 9700 runs BlackBerry OS 5.0 and all the goodies are included like threaded messaging, updated BB Messenger, and BlackBerry Maps.
Best of all RIM is launching the phone to nearly every GSM carrier in North America and Europe in November although International carrier-specific pricing is hard to come by right now. That will probably change in a day or two though.
AT&T has announced that it will sell the phone for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate, and T-Mobile is expected to follow suit although it’s press release doesn’t mention a price. What it does mention however is that the phone will be able to make unlimited calls off of WiFi for $10 per month, which is something AT&T is slowly accepting too although it seems that AT&T’s flavor will lack that ability.

Apple Bringing Wi-Fi Direct to iPhone in 2010?
October 21, 2009
Apple has jumped on the Wi-Fi Direct bandwagon, which means we could see the technology introduced into the iPhone and iPod touch as early as 2010. What is it and what does it do? It basically lets devices connect peer-to-peer for data exchange, similar to how Bluetooth currently works. Or, if we understand it right, imagine the Remote app controlling your iTunes or A Read More… |

Personally, I don’t think search engine are so useful anymore. Nowadays we have Twitter as most of Internet users are concerned with breaking news and everyone is using the micro-blogging service to tell the world what has happened. I’m not saying that Google is not useful anymore, all I’m saying is that the search engine was more useful a couple of years ago. However, we need both of them. How about searching something and seeing the search results of both Google and Twitter? Well, here is Twoogle.

Windows 7 Goes On Sale October 22
June 15, 2009
Microsoft has announced Windows 7 will officially go on sale to consumers on October 22, 2009.
Microsoft has been consistently saying it plans to release the next version of its flagship desktop operating system, Windows 7, before the end of 2009—and computer maker Acer spilled some beans a month ago by saying it expected to launch Windows 7-equipped PCs in October—but now the word as finally come down: Windows 7 will go on sale to consumers on October 22, 2009.
Microsoft posted a release candidate of Windows 7 last month to the general public, inviting Windows users—or at least Windows users with a lot of bandwidth—to download and try out the operating system for free. Response to the RC has generally been positive, with the broader Windows community seemingly eager to put Vista behind them and move on to Windows 7. Windows 7 offers a number of technology, performance, and interface enhancements, but is based on the same fundamental design and architecture as Vista.
Consumers’ eagerness to move on from Vista mirrors many enterprises’ and organizations’ hesitations about Vista: although Microsoft claims Vista sales have been strong, many enterprise customers have skipped Vista entirely, sticking with the ever-aging Windows XP. Those organizations have long since been expected to skip Vista entirely, opting for Windows 7 instead as they bring in new hardware and get the operating system certified with their operations.
Microsoft hasn’t announced any plans, but the company is widely expected to offer some sort of rebate or discounted upgrade program for new buyers of Windows Vista or systems pre-loaded with Vista so as not to cannibalize new PC sales in the interval before Windows 7 ships. Specific details of any rebate or discount program will likely vary between computer makers; industry watchers don’t expect Microsoft to offer any stepped-down path ti Windows 7 for Windows XP or Windows Vista Basic users.
